- Linn-Benton Community College was established in 1966 as a two-year public college to serve the educational needs of residents in Linn and Benton counties. The college is supported by tuition, local property taxes and state revenue, and is directed by an elected, seven-member board of education. LBCC's 104-acre Albany, Oregon campus is just 11 miles east of Corvallis. The campus houses a learning resource center, bookstore, 500-seat theater, library, conference facility, and student lounge/recreation rooms. Dining facilities include a cafeteria, a cafe and a restaurant operated by students in the Culinary Arts program. The Periwinkle Child Development Center offers child development classes, daycare and kindergarten. Our modern Activities Center includes a gym, weight room, aerobics room, and sports facilities for basketball, baseball and volleyball. Our Horticulture program has a state-of-the-art greenhouse and organic garden. LBCC's horse management facility is located 1.5 miles from the main campus. Three off-campus centers provide access to classes in Corvallis, Lebanon, and Sweet Home. Community Education and workforce development courses are also offered. LBCC was established to offer a variety of educational opportunities including general education courses, professional technical training, lower-division college transfer courses, continuing education classes, lifelong learning opportunities, distance education, credit courses during evening hours and on weekends, so students can earn a degree without having to attend to class on weekdays, adult basic education programs, and education programs for students with disabilities. LBCC also offers a Degree Partnership Program with Oregon State University in Corvallis, which provides access to both institutions. Linn-Benton Community College has been accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. Courses are approved by the Oregon State Board of Education, and lower-division courses are approved for transfer to colleges and universities in the Oregon University System.
